Coffee Stains

1. For fresh coffee stains first blot any remaining coffee and blot the area with cold water. If possible run cold water through the back of the stain until the water runs clear.

2. If the stain remains or if it’s an older stain, rub some liquid laundry detergent with cold water into the affected area and let sit for 3-5 minutes. Then soak the item in cold water for 30 minutes, agitating the stained area every 5 minutes to loosen the stain.

3. Finally, if the stain still remains, apply stain remover and let sit for 5 minutes before washing normally. Be sure the check that the stain is removed before drying. If the stain remains, repeat the steps above or take the item to the dry cleaner for a professional cleaning and stain removal.

If you take an item with a coffee stain to the cleaners, be sure to inform the person at the counter about the stain and if you had coffee with cream and sugar, milk and sugar, black, etc. Each of these extra ingredients can change the way the stain needs to be treated.
