Give Your Holiday Clothing Some Love

clothes dry cleaning and laundering

The cold weather and holidays are full of warm sweaters and festive party attire, make sure you’re taking care of finer winter fabrics to keep them looking their best season after season, year after year.

Satin is an elegant option of the holidays. It’s available in 100% silk as well as blends made with acetate, rayon, cotton, nylon and polyester -so make sure you always read the care label. Acetate and silk should especially always be dry cleaned. Never rub stains on satin in order to avoid loss of color or sheen.

Cashmere clothing is luxurious as well as long lasting. Most cashmere care instructions are to dry clean only or wash by hand. If ironing, always use a press cloth between the iron and the fabric. Better yet, bring your cashmere to Max I. Walker for a quality cleaning and pressing. Be sure your cashmere is clean to avoid damage by moths.

Velvet is another cozy fabric of the winter season that requires special care. It almost always requires dry cleaning in order to avoid shrinking or damage. Moisture can ruin velvet, including water and perspiration so be extra cautious in velvet items.

Beaded clothing, along with sequin and pearl adornments are festive and fun for the holidays. Often care labels do not apply to the decorative parts of clothing so they can lose their color, break or fall off the garment. Dry cleaners test before cleaning to make sure they are all securely attached. If it’s too late for one of your favorite decorative items, stop by Max I. Walker to see if we can help you repair it.
